NFL – Owner tells Cam Newton He Can’t Get Tattoos

The face of the Carolina Panthers… I think I’d prefer him with tattoos

In the latest installment of the longest running series on tv, the generational gap, Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson revealed his disdain for tattoos and long hair, and probably rap music.

Richardson, in a recent interview, said that before the Panthers selected Cam Newton, the Heisman trophy winning quarterback out of Auburn, he asked the young qb if he had any piercings or tattoos. When Newton responded that he did not, Richardson said “good, let’s keep it that way.”

The 75-year old Richardson, a former NFL player and teammate of Johnny Unitas, also discouraged Newton from growing out his hair as he is clearly trying to make Newton the new, clean-cut face of the Carolina Panthers.

NFL – The Year of the Injury?

We’re only a few weeks into the training camp and just on the cusp of the first games of the preseason and already there have been a ton of injuries around the NFL. All 32 teams have at least one injured player with many teams having 7 or 8 players injured already.

ACL injuries especially have been the death of many teams and have ended the seasons of many players including: Detroit Lions’ rookie running back Mikel Leshoure, and Carolina Panthers’ wide receiver David Gettis both ended their season this week due to an ACL injury.

Injuries have hampered many teams and may seriously hurt the playoff chances of many teams. The Detroit Lions, who many people have as their surprise team in the NFC, have had numerous injuries including all three of their early round picks (Nick Fairley, Mikel Leshoure, and Titus Young) and others including starting corner back Alphonso Smith, tight end Brandon Pettigrew, and offensive tackle Jason Fox.

The so called “dream team” the Philadelphia Eagles, have also had their fair share of injuries. Wide receivers Jeremy Maclin and Steve Smith are both won’t be able to contribute fully for a while, and offensive tackles Fenuki Tupou, and King Dunlap both left last nights preseason game with injuries.

Many blame the lack of time between the end of the lockout and the start of preseason as the reason why there have been so many injuries. Players haven’t had as much time to get in shape for the season.
